Abstract

Embers are responsible for the majority of ignitions for properties lost or damaged due to bushfires in Australia. Despite this, the focus of mitigation methods remains firmly fixed on the risks associated with radiant heat and direct flame contact. To assist households in making decisions about risk reduction methods, we develop a mathematical model of the potential ember load impacting a property. We illustrate this model with two case studies.
