The 2023 Fluids in New Zealand (FiNZ) workshop will be held at Victoria University of Wellington (Kelburn Campus) over 15–17 February 2023.

The workshop aims to bring together New Zealand researchers interested in fluid mechanics to discuss their recent work in a friendly and collaborative setting. The workshop covers a broad range of topics, including experimental, numerical and theoretical work. We encourage participation from all industries including academics, postgraduate students and scientists working in Crown Research Institutes or private companies.

Any queries about the workshop can be directed to brendan.harding@vuw.ac.nz

Post workshop summary

I would like to thank all of our participants for contributing to the workshop. The majority of participants were able to make it in-person in spite of the extreme weather generated by tropical cyclone Gabrielle. We had a great range of talks, I invite you to view the abstracts which may be found on this page. I found the workshop to be very enjoyable and the positive feedback I've recieved so far suggests others did as well. Lastly, I congratulate the recipients of the best student talk prize (see below).

Student talk prizes

We will award some small prizes for the best student talks. A $50 voucher for the winner will be provided by the VUW Simulation, Numerics, Analytics and Programming hub (SNAP) and a smaller prize will be provided to the runner up. The best student talk prizes for the 2023 workshop were awarded as follows:

  • Winner – Oscar Punch (University of Canterbury)
  • Runner-up – Kirill Misiiuk (University of Otago)
  • Honourable mentions – Adam Cox (University of Canterbury) and Muizz Shah (University of Auckland)
